Jobless rate is 12% in Wood County
Wood County saw its jobless rate soar to 12.0 percent in May, according to figures released today by the
Ohio Department of Job and Family Services:
Jobless rates reported for other Northwest Ohio counties included Defiance, 16.1 percent; Fulton, 13.6;
Hancock, 10.2; Henry, 14.2; Lucas, 13.4; Ottawa, 12.8; Sandusky, 11.8; and Seneca, 12.7.
Among cities, Toledo had a 14.3 percent jobless rate.
East Wooster work planned Wednesday
Bowling Green State University utility work along East Wooster Street, between South College Drive and
Mercer Road, may result in temporary traffic delays on Wednesday.
There will be intermittent lane closures with reduced or shifted lanes of travel. Work near the
Wooster/South College intersection will result in alternating one-lane travel.
Delays are likely. If possible, drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route on Wednesday.
Access to businesses, homes, and BGSU parking lots will be maintained.
Tontogany Fest Comm. meets Thurs.
TONTOGANY – The Tontogany Festival Committee will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. in the fire hall.
Senior gathering
is Thursday in Wayne
A senior gathering will be held Thursday at noon at Mt. Zion Church, at the corner of Bays and Reynolds
roads, near Wayne.
A free chicken barbecue meal will be served, and all senior citizens are welcome.
BG Evening Lions hold fundraiser
The Bowling Green Evening Lions will hold a fundraiser this weekend.
Flags For Sight will be held Saturday and Sunday in the lobby of the Bowling Green Kroger store from 8
a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Donations will be accepted, with small American flags given out as a thank you
to contributors. All proceeds from this event will aid the eye care needs of local families that
otherwise cannot afford basic eye exams and glasses.
The club also will accept used eyeglasses for recycling. Eyeglasses are recycled through Volunteer
Optometrist Mission Team (VOSH) trips to third-world countries.
Vintage baseball game played Sunday
The Wood County Infirmary Inmates vintage baseball team will take on the Spiegel Grove Squires on Sunday
at 1 p.m. at Wintergarden Park in Bowling Green.
Those attending the watch the game are encouraged to take their own lawn chairs.
