James and Joan (Bemis) Bissland of Bowling Green will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on
Saturday.
They were married June 20, 1959 in Walpole, N.H.
Joining the celebration will be their three children: Sarah Breithaupt, Naperville, Ill.; Betsy Hope of
Fairfield Township, Ohio; and Andrew, Englewood, Colo. A fourth child, Daniel, died in 2006.
Also attending will be their four grandchildren: Matthew, Nathan, Wesley and Emily.
Dr. Bissland, a graduate of Cornell University, the University of Massachusetts and the University of
Iowa, and a former newspaper reporter, public relations manager, and book publisher, is associate
professor of journalism emeritus at Bowling Green State University.
Mrs. Bissland, a graduate of Wheaton College in Massachusetts and BGSU, and a former high school teacher
and professional counselor, retired as director of the evening program and adult learner services at
