Domestic violence briefing slated June 15
Pending state legislation on domestic violence and related issues will be the topic of discussion at a
public policy briefing from 1-3 p.m. next Monday at the Wood County District Public Library, 251 N. Main
St., Bowling Green.
Sponsored by ACTION OHIO Coalition for Battered Women, the Bowling Green State University Women’s Center
and the Cocoon Shelter, the meeting will include presentation of legislative information by Phyllis
Carlson-Riehm, ACTION OHIO executive director.
Among the items to be discussed are teen dating-violence bills, the pets and protection order bill, and
how best to communicate with legislators.
Elected officials invited to attend include state Rep. Randy Gardner and state Sen. Mark Wagoner.
Denise Youngs memorial poker run June 20
RISINGSUN – The second annual Denise Youngs Memorial Poker Run to benefit cancer research will be held
June 20, with registration at Charter Steel on U.S. 23, south of Risingsun.
The ride starts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the last bike in at 4 p.m.
The last stop on the approximately 70-mile poker run will be at Friendly Ron’s in Wayne, where there will
be door prizes, raffles, food and music.
There is a $10 donation per hand. The grand prize will be a NASCAR driving experience or $500 in cash.

Last year’s run raised a total of $5,500 for the American Cancer Society. This year, proceeds will go to
lung cancer research.
Denise Young died of lung cancer in December 2006, leaving two children and a grandchild.
