LONG POND, Pa. (AP) — NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Tony Stewart will start from the pole for the
Pocono 500 after rain washed out qualifying at Pocono Raceway on Friday.
Jeff Gordon will start second in Sunday’s 500-mile race, followed by Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch and Ryan
Newman.
Stewart hopes to build on what so far has been a banner year in his first season as an owner and driver.
A second-place finish last week at Dover catapulted the Stewart Haas Racing driver to the top of the
Sprint Cup standings.
He is the first driver/owner to lead in points since Alan Kulwicki won the 1992 Cup championship. Stewart
has a first-place finish at Pocono in 2003, and was runner-up last year.
