An inmate in the Wood County Justice Center has apparently died as a result of suicide.
Daniel E. Prater, 49, of Perrysburg Township, was found dead Tuesday night in his cell at about 11:35
during a routine security check. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office announced the death on Wednesday
afternoon.
Prater had been incarcerated since April 19, charged with the murder of Henrietta Foster of Perrysburg
Township, whose dead body was found in her home that date and with whom Prater had an "on again,
off again" relationship.
He had previously served prison time on a 2008 domestic violence charge against Foster.
On May 20, Prater was indicted by the Wood County Grand Jury for Foster’s murder as well as for tampering
with evidence in connection with the case.
He was slated for a pre-trial conference on June 15 and a jury trial beginning July 27 in Judge Reeve
Kelsey’s Common Pleas Courtroom. If found guilty, Prater faced a prison sentence of 15 years to life.

In keeping with the policy related to any in-custody death, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office Detective
Division is investigating the incident. The official cause of death will be determined by the Wood
County coroner.
"We are thoroughly looking into it," the sheriff said. "Preliminary findings show there
was no indication from our deputies he was a risk for suicide."
