To the Editor: Troy Township Memorial Day service praised

0

This is written to express appreciation to any and all who are responsible for the splendid condition of
the Troy Township Cemetery in Luckey.
On Memorial Day it was so impressive to see the neatly groomed grounds and the dedication given to the
veterans’ graves by Troy Webster American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit.
With 403 flags on the veterans’ graves placed by post members and a poppy corsage placed by the auxiliary
members on veterans’ and auxiliary members’ markers, there was evidence of loving care and respect
shown. Veterans from the Spanish-American war to the war in Iraq are buried there.
An outstanding program was presented – the 104th annual celebration of the Troy Township Memorial
Association. Eastwood High School Band presented a concert of patriotic music. Prayers and speaker Dale
Bruning, a WWII veteran, gave the people a sense of pride and a challenge to remember the meaning of
Memorial Day. It is much more than a holiday weekend to kick off summer events.
