Wayne business fined, must pay restitution
Buckeye Haulers, of Wayne, has been ordered to pay restitution in excess of $15,500 and fined an
additional $10,000 by Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Alan Mayberry.
The case involved the corporation collecting insurance premiums from employees’ paychecks, but not
providing and/or paying for any insurance.
William May and Joann May on behalf of their corporation, Buckeye Truck and Trailer Leasing Inc., doing
business as Buckeye Haulers, entered no contest pleas in two separate cases on Tuesday. Both pleaded no
contest to notify of missed premium and termination of overage.
In an unusual move, the court approved an amended charge to have both original defendants have their
names removed from the indictments and proceeded with the charges against the corporation only. Had the
charges remained with the Mays, they would have been felony-level charges; however, according to the
court office, there can be no felony against a corporation.
Restitution in the amount of $11,730 must be paid through the Clerk of Courts office to Pamela Friedhoff,
Wayne, and $3,814 to Carolyn Duquette, Helena. Both are former employees of the firm.
In addition, a $5,000 fine was issued in the William May case, with an additional $5,000 fine in the
Joann May case. Buckeye Haulers must also pay all court costs in the cases.
