PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg High School held a groundreakingThursday night to install a new synthetic playing
surface at Steinecker Stadium.
A gift from Perrysburg graduate and former school board member Ken Widdel and his family is providing
much of the financial support needed. The total budgets for the
project is $719,100. That includes renovation costs of $642,000, plus a $32,100 contingency fund and
architectural and financing fees of about $45,000.
The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 21. Perrysburg’s first football game is Aug. 28 against
Bowsher.
Treasurer Matt Feasel said the project will be financed by the district through a program sponsored by
the Ohio Association of School Business Officials. He said the interest rate for the 10-year bond for
$750,000.
 
Though the district is handling the financing, the payments will be made by the Athletic Boosters and
through athletic department funds. Those athletic department funds come through gate receipts, sales and
fundraising.
The boosters fundraising is supported by Widdel’s donations of a $500,000 life insurance policy. When
that policy is paid out, the money will be used to reimburse any spending on the part of the district.

In addition to the football team, the field is used for both girls and boys soccer, marching band,
lacrosse and for some track activities and baseball and softball practice as well as for playoff
contests.
