Washington Twp. School alumni hold banquet

The Washington Township School Alumni held their biannual reunion May 2 at the First United Methodist
Church in Bowling Green, with more than 150 guests in attendance.
Honored during the program were alumni who attended the school and graduated or were to have graduated in
the years ending in 9. There were two present from the class of 1939, five from 1949 and two from 1959.
All were given long-stemmed carnations. Francis Hofner, 96, from the Class of 1930, was among the
honored guests. Also attending were two members from the class of 1931, two from 1935 and one from 1937.
Former teachers Ruth Michaelis and Evelyn Michaelis Pauff were also present.
Rev. Mark Montgomery from Calvary United Methodist Church and Grand Rapids gave the invocation and
benediction.
Entertainment was provided by the Otsego Swing Choir under the direction of Janine Baughman, including a
special song for persons of retirement.
David Mertz read the names of classmates who had died since the 2007 banquet.
Letters from Rose Ribble Bottorff, Kent Creps, Rosie Sautter McClure, Sue Vollmar Forrest, Ray Neifer,
Phyllis Kuder Knisley and Betty Main Phillips were read aloud by Carole King Flynn.
Hosting at the registration table were Ida Morelock Booth, Jackie Fox Shank, Janice Crozier Kaiser-Brown
and Betty Mertz Buehrer. Ushers were Barbara Stockner Heiman and Sharon Creps Kolinski.
The tables were decorated with weighted balloons in the school colors of purple and gold, plus a variety
of plants which were given as door pries.
The banquet planning was done by Shirley Wammes Shank, Dick Conrad, Anna Jane Bateson Titus, Robert
Miner, Norma Bateson Roberts and Carole Flynn.
