Local dealerships lose franchises to sell Jeeps

Two Wood County dealerships were told Thursday they will lose their franchises to sell Jeeps.
Bowling Green Jeep, 1079 N. Main St., and Ed Schmidt, at 26875 Ohio 25 in Perrysburg, were among nearly
900 dealers notified Thursday by Chrysler. The move is part of Chrysler’s plan to reorganize as it moves
through bankruptcy.
Both dealerships have other new car lines and also have large used car businesses they will continue to
operate.
A message left with Bowling Green Jeep this morning had not been returned by press time.
"The dealership would have preferred this had gone the other way," Schmidt spokesperson William
Fischer said this morning. "The auto industry is changing and they plan to adapt and take the
opportunity to build on the things they already do well, customer services and running a quality
dealership."
Fischer said the change will have little effect on employment at the dealership, which has handled the
Jeep line since 1992.
General Motors was notifying its franchises today about their status. However, GM is leaving it up to the
dealers to announce their status and does not plan to release a list.
