Alan Earl Harger, 63, of Shelton, Wash., and formerly of Bowling Green, died Wednesday (May 13, 2009) at
his home.
He retired in May 2008 after 25 years with the Department of Transportation, State of Washing-ton. He
previously worked several years for the Center for Policy Alternatives in Cambridge, Mass.
Mr. Harger was a member of South Sound Fly Fishers, which awarded him Flyfisher of the Year in 2004 and
the Dale Sweeney Award in 1995. He had a lifetime membership in Trout Unlimited.
He also enjoyed woodworking.
The 1964 graduate of Bowling Green High School earned his bachelor’s degree at M.I.T. in 1969.
He was born March 8, 1946, in Bowling Green to Kenneth H. and Fern (Baertsch) Harger.
Surviving are his mother, of Shelton Wash.; and three sisters, Jane Raetzman, Bremerton Wash.; Catherine
Harger, Seattle; and Beth Johnston, of Shelton.
A private service will be held. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bowling Green.
