Chat about 'Chasing Vermeer' The book for Monday's Novel Chit-Chat is "Chasing Vermeer" by Blue Baliett. Pick up a copy now at the Children's Place at the Wood County District Library. The discussion is at 7 p.m. at the library. This is for adults and children. "Chasing Vermeer" is a 2004 children's art mystery set in Hyde Park, Chicago. Studio Connection piano students perform at festival Students from the Studio Connection participated in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs District IV-A Festival at Heidelberg University on March 2. OFMC is a statewide organization that is devoted to the love and encouragement of music in Ohio, offering music students an opportunity to develop and maintain high musical standards through performance, as well as earn scholarships. Participants are required to play two memorized solos for the Piano Solo Event and one memorized solo with accompanist for the Piano Concerto Event. Both are evaluated by two judges and rated for points. Students can then earn gold cup trophies with accumulated points. Participating students in solo event were Rhys Black, Lydia Brunner, Leanne Hershberger, Nathan Hershberger, Eric Johnston, John Johnston, Mary Kettinger, Jeremy Mahoney, Lili Manea, Esther Nixon, Hudson Pendleton, Solanna Riddle, Gemma Smith, Paige Suelzer, Isabel VanderEnde, Hannah Wagner and Yelia Xu. Participating in concerto event, accompanied by teacher Susan West, were Nathan Hershberger, Mary Kettinger, Jeremy Mahoney and Lili Manea. All earned unanimous superior ratings. Earning their first 15-point gold cup trophies were John Johnston, Mary Kettinger and Jeremy Mahoney. Teachers at the Bowling Green studio are Kelsey Gilsdorf, Susannah Lock and Susan West. Climbing club starts at BGSU Session III of the Adrenaline Youth Climbing Club starts March 19. Classes are held at the Student Recreation Center on the Bowling Green State University campus. The program is designed for youth ages 8 and older and encourages climbing skill enhancement and refinement. During each practice, climbers participate in a variety of games and lessons designed to be fun, active and educational. Trained coaches work with climbers to develop strength and balance, learn proper lower and upper body climbing techniques and create a friendly, fun social environment. Classes continue through May 2, with no climbing April 2-4. The schedule is Tuesdays and Wednesdays, ages 8 to 12, from 4 to 6 p.m., and Thursdays, ages 13-18, from 4 to 6 p.m. Climbers attend one day each week for six weeks. The cost is $75. Mazza Museum event helps preschoolers with diabetes FINDLAY - Diabetes Youth Services will host an event for preschoolers with type 1 diabetes and their families at the University of Findlay's Mazza Museum on Monday at 7 p.m. The evening will include stories and museum's international arts from picture books, educational play time and crafts. Dr. Mark Watkins will present "Transitioning to school, preschool or daycare," addressing issues children with type 1 diabetes face. The event is free and open to the public.
