Late-night fun with Teen Central at community center
Bowling Green Teen Central is hosting its annual Late Night at the Bowling Green Community Center.
It will be held Jan. 17 from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. This program is for children ages 11-15 or in grades
six through eight.
Teens will have the opportunity to participate in fun activities like dodgeball, volleyball, basketball,
charades and video games. Food will also be available.
Participants need to wear non-marking gym shoes and must register in advance. Drop-in registration for
this free program will not be accepted.

Caldecott questions answered
Join Kathy East and learn how the Caldecott Award is selected during a Sunday program at the Wood County
District Public Library.
Teachers, book enthusiasts, parents, and youth are all welcome to this event, which is from 2 to 4 p.m.
in the meeting room of the library.
There will be a mock election at 4 p.m.
The Caldecott and Newbery Medals are the most prestigious American children’s book awards. The Caldecott
recognizes picture books for children. The 2013 Caldecott winner was "This Is Not My Hat,"
written and illustrated by Jon Klassen.

Science adventures planned
PERRYSBURG – Adventures in Science will be held Jan. 16 at the Way Public Library.
What can you build with just spaghetti and marshmallows? How about toothpicks and gumdrops? Meet in the
library from 4 to 5 p.m. for some fun science related activities.

Learn how to decorate cupcakes with a professional
PERRYSBURG – Cupcake decorating will be held Jan. 17 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Way Public Library.
This class is for children ages 11-15.
This instructional program led by Mary Turain, former professional cake decorator and business owner,
will give participants the opportunity to decorate two cupcakes using both fondant and buttercream
frosting.
Participants will also learn to create borders and flowers. Participants should bring their own rolling

It’s war: Get crafty
PERRYSBURG – Teen Craft Wars are set for Jan. 31 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Way Public Library.
This is for children ages 11-15.
Turn a bag of craft supplies into something spectacular. Each participant will be given a mystery bag of
craft supplies and 30 minutes to create. A craft supply closet will be on hand for things such as glue,
scissors, tape, etc.
All items in the mystery bag must be used in the final creation. For more information, contact Adria

Butterfly exhibit opens at zoo
TOLEDO – Summer arrives early at the Toledo Zoo on Jan. 17 when a new butterfly exhibit takes flight
inside the Museum of Science. It continues through March 2.
It all happens in a walk-through experience at the museum’s Great Hall, transformed into a sunny getaway.
Butterflies from all across the Americas glide around visitors – including many species that visitors
would never have a chance to see otherwise. From the striking zebra longwing to the bright orange gulf
fritillary and multicolored white peacock butterfly, it’s an interactive encounter that inspires
