Teachers, book enthusiasts, parents and youth are welcome to join Kathy East on Saturday for a Mock 2013 Caldecott Election beginning at 1 p.m. at the Wood County District Public Library in the Children's Place program room.
The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of 19th-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
East is a retired WCDPL children's librarian and served on the Caldecott committee in 1987, and again in 2004 as chairwoman.  Learn how the Caldecott award is selected as she goes through each step and the group looks at some of the wonderfully illustrated picture books from 2012.
Then, cast a vote for which book you think deserves this medal.
For the full mock election, plan on staying for over an hour. Return to the library on Jan. 28 to watch the ALA Media Awards and which book wins the Caldecott.
