PERRYSBURG - An Eagle Court of Honor was held earlier this month for a local Boy Scout who made bat houses at W.W. Knight Preserve.
Mike Parritt's project consisted of planning, developing, organizing and leading 19 volunteers in the building and installation of 10 single chamber bat houses, posted on 21-foot-long steel posts at the preserve in Perrysburg. The estimated cost of the project was $1,100. Mike came in under budget at $727.
The project took 147 hours to complete. The Wood County Park District donated 75 percent of the funding, with the rest of the funding coming from donations from the Home Depot in Rossford and Fort Meigs Barber Shop in Perrysburg.
Bryan Bockbrader, stewardship coordinator for Wood County Park District, worked closely with Mike.
The son of Valerie and Michael Parritt, Perrysburg, Mike is a freshman at Perrysburg High School. His troop is St. Rose Troop 167 in Perrysburg.
His Scoutmaster is Bryan Barshel and the committee chairperson is Ken Kowalski.
Mike is a member of the Perrysburg Marching Band, symphonic band, indoor drumline and the track team. He is also an honor roll student, and plays CYO basketball for St. Rose.
As a member of Troop 167, Mike has served as patrol leader, assistant patrol leader and instructor. He has earned his Arrow of Light, and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. Mike earned his Eagle Rank on Oct. 29, at the age of 14. An Eagle Court of Honor was held in his recognition April 14 at W.W. Knight Nature Preserve.
After high school, Mike plans to pursue a degree in medicine, concentrating in anesthesiology.
