TOLEDO - On Aug. 31, visit the Toledo Zoo for a day dedicated to the little creatures that creep, crawl, float and flutter.
The fun starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. Children participate in buggy games, from harvesting and tasting honey to playing in spider ball tournaments. The family will enjoy the zoo's bug-focused story time and Keeper Tales live animal show, plus a visit from Bugman and his insects - a chance to see bugs like you've never seen them before. Imagination Station will be on grounds, too, offering a chromatography butterfly activity.
It all happens in Nature's Neighborhood, the zoo's award-winning children's zoo that offers innovative, child-centered teaching through real-life science that's so fun, the kids won't realize they're learning.
The Butterfly & Bug Festival is free with regular admission. For more information and a schedule of activities, visit the website at toledozoo.org/bugfest.
In addition to the fun of the Butterfly & Bug Fest, don't miss the final weekend of Wild Walkabout. It's a chance to walk among the wallabies, laugh with the kookaburras and get close to Baru, the huge saltwater crocodile.
