It is a familiar tale to the thousands of children who have read James and Deborah Howe’s
"Bunnicula: A Rabbit-Tale of Mystery."
One dark and stormy night, the Monroe family brings home a bunny found during a showing of
"Dracula." After midnight, fur begins to fly as the imaginations of the family cat Chester and
dog Harold get the best of them, and they plot to prove that the new pet is a vampire-bunny intent on
feeding on the Monroes’ produce.
The Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film will revisit this beloved story in its
spring production of "Bunnicula the Musical," adapted for the stage by Jon Klein with music
composition by Chris Jeffries.
Performances at the Joe E. Brown Theatre, University Hall, are scheduled for 8 p.m. April 14, 15 and 16,
and at 2 p.m. April 16 and 17.

Appropriate for families, the musical provides valuable lessons about difference.
Contrary to Chester’s preconceived ideas about vampires, Bunnicula is not the harrowing hare of the cat’s
overactive imagination, but a harmless rabbit hungry for nothing but a family and fresh lettuce.
In BGSU’s production, Bunnicula is an endearing puppet animated by Brittany Pausch, a native of Bowling
Green.
Pausch and 11 other students, including Dylan Stretchbery and Justin Betancourt, also alumni of Bowling
Green schools, are working on the play as part of the Treehouse Troupe course that teaches the
performance of theatre for young audiences.
In addition to working on the play, students will design educational materials and perform readings from
Howe’s Bunnicula series for the Wood County District Public Library’s Novel Chit-Chats and PAWS for
Reading programs.
