American Legion Buckeye Boys State will starts Sunday at Bowling Green State University.
The following Wood County boys, all juniors in high school, have been selected to attend (most of the boys selected ran on last week’s youth page).
Pemberville American Legion Post 183 is sponsoring Michael Glaze and Diego Martinez.
At Eastwood High School, Glaze participates in football, wrestling and track. He is the son of Jennifer Glaze.
Martinez attends Otsego High School. He is the son of Jose and Hilda Martinez, Bowling Green, and plays soccer.
Weston American Legion is sponsoring Austin Hefflinger, who attends Otsego High School. The son of Deb and Glenn Hefflinger, he plays varsity football and basketball. He also coaches flag football and does power lifting.
The Weston post is also sponsoring Alexander Easterwood, who is the son of Ricky and Sarah Easterwood and is in the gas and diesel program at Penta Career Center. His also the FFA class representative and 4-H club president.
Grand Rapids American Legion Post 232 is sponsoring Jared Feffer, Mitchell Miles and Jalen Myers.
Feffer, son of James and Karlyn Feffer, Grand Rapids, attends Otsego High School where he is active in student council, book and media club, band, choir and swing choir. He volunteers for the Applebutter Fest.
Miles is the son of Matt and Paula Miles, Bowling Green. At Otsego, he is in NHS, band and golf.
Jalen Myers plays varsity basketball at Otsego. He is a former student council representative and is the son of Amber Myers.
Tontogany American Legion Post 441 is sponsoring Edgar Ferguson III, Austin Rohleder and Justin Shawberry.
Ferguson is the son of Edgar Ferguson II and Jennifer Ferguson. He participates in Young Life, and cross country, baseball, NHS, band and book and media club at Otsego.
Rohleder participates in powerlifting, football, track and FFA, and his church youth group. He is the son of Joe Rohleder and Julie Heuerman and works at Nazareth Hall.
Shawberry is active in Boy Scouts, and book and media club, soccer, wrestling, NHS and student council at Otsego. He is the son of Jason and Patricia Shawberry, Bowling Green.
Justus Smith is sponsored by Portage American Legion Post 260. He attends Bowling Green High School and is involved in hockey, FFA and Young Life. He is the son of Dean and Sara Smith.
Ben Thomas is sponsored by McClure American Legion Post 332. The son of Kathy and Roger Thomas, Grand Rapids, he is a member St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Bowling Green, and the Wood County Junior Fair Board. He attends Otsego High School, where he is active in cross country. He is FFA chapter treasurer 2013-14 and a State FFA degree recipient. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 347, Tontogany, where he is assistant senior patrol leader and a life scout.
