First-place winners in prose and poetry from Bowling Green area schools were recognized on April 29 by
the Women’s Club of Bowling Green.
The 32nd Annual Creative Writing Contest Awards Ceremony was held at the Simpson Garden Meeting Room.
All winners were introduced and their entries were read aloud.
They were given a certificate and a small monetary prize.
Women’s Club member and contest coordinator Kathy East said nearly 250 entries were received and judged
by club members.
"It’s a challenging task but so rewarding to see what kids today are writing with great
determination, creativity and voice," she said.
"The club’s tradition of celebrating writing among youngsters is such a joy."
Christina Gravarone, a junior at Bowling Green High School, sang two songs. Light refreshments were
served.
Two bound volumes of the winning pieces were donated to the Wood County District Public Library to be
cataloged and shelved in the Children’s Place.
