Alexandria Coppeler, a student at the Bowling Green Middle School, was the winner of recent district Lions Club Peace Poster contest.
She was honored May 11 at the District 13A Lions Club Convention held at the Holiday Inn French Quarter, Perrysburg.  Alexandria had been selected the winner of the contest held in the fall at Bowling Green Middle School.
The Portage Lions Club had sponsored the event with the help of art teachers Kim Sockman and Rochana Junkasem.
The theme of the contest was "Imagine Peace." Students were asked how they imagined peace looks to them. Over 20 middle school students participated in that contest, the first year for it.
Alexandria's poster was submitted to the district competition, which encompasses all of Northwest Ohio. Alexandria's poster was then submitted to the state competition, though it was not selected the winner.
Lions Club International has sponsored the international Peace Poster contest for the past 25 years. It is open to youth ages 11, 12 and 13, and over 1 million youth in over 100 counties have participated.
