A Bowling Green Eagle Scout project is for the birds.
Skyler Fleshman created and installed blue bird boxes in the new Black Swamp Preserve park off Kenwood Avenue.
The Bowling Green High School senior found plans for the boxes, made a budget, then presented his idea to the Friends of the Wood County Parks, using PowerPoint.
The group funded the $550 project.
Skyler then purchased equipment and organized other Scouts, friends and family members into an assembly line to create the boxes. He inspected each box and made corrections.
He met with a Wood County Park District aviary expert to determine where in the new Black Swamp Park to place the boxes, and they researched migratory patterns of the birds.
He pounded 16 stakes into the ground and attached the blue bird boxes.
Bryan Bockbrader, from the Wood County Park District, was a help to Skyler with the project.
Skyler's parents are Rob and Kim Fleshman.
Chris Sabo is his Scoutmaster with Troop 422.
After graduation, Skyler plans on attending Bowling Green State University and majoring in education.
He is a Sentinel-Tribune newspaper carrier and plays football. He ran track his junior year, and played junior varsity baseball his sophomore year.
Skyler enjoys camping and hiking, and went to Philmont, N.M., with the Scouts for a 10-day hiking trip in the mountains.
