Audition for Horizon Youth Theater show, sign up for classes

Horizon Youth Theater classes start Sept. 14. Auditions for the fall show are also next
week.Each class will be eight weeks long. All classes will perform in a showcase on Nov. 9. It is $40
per student to take the classes.It is possible to do both the show and classes. To sign up, contact
Katie Grilliot at [email protected],All classes are in Wolfe Center room 211 on the Bowling Green State
University campus. Parking is free on weekends.The Beauty of the Bard is Sundays from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and
is for children in grades three through six. Students will study select texts from Shakespeare’s works,
learning about historical context, mastering the iconic Elizabethan language, and communicating his
stories through specific acting styles. The instructor is Christina Hoekstra.Introduction to Theater is
Sundays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and is for children in kindergarten through second grade. Students will
learn theater basics, including stage directions, terminology and etiquette. Students will learn about
being on the stage, behind the stage, and in the audience. The instructor is Brittany Albrecht.Movement
and Masks is Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is for children in grades four through eight.
Actors need to use the whole body to create a character, not just their faces. Learn how movement and
maskwork help create a more fully realized performance. The instructor is Sarah Maxwell.Playwriting is
Sundays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and is for children in grades three through six. Students will learn how
to write theater scripts. They will learn how to create a character and how to construct a plot.
Students will make a script together and will perform their own work for the showcase. The instructor is
Grilliot.The HYT fall show is "The Colors Started It," by Keith Guion. Based off of Native
American folk tales, there are many different and interesting characters that tell different tales of
how certain things came to be in the world.The cast size will range between 26-30. Students ages 8 to 18
can audition.Auditions are Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Callbacks are Sept. 13
from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The first day of practice is Sept. 30.Auditions and the callbacks will be at the
Wolfe Center in room 211. If a child cannot make it to any of the audition dates, email Grilliot for
another time.
