Beth A. Casey, aged 75, passed on Monday, August 23 after a brief illness. She was born on July 23, 1935 to the late Mae Webster Casey and Thomas A. Casey, who preceded her in death. She was awarded a Senatorial Scholarship to attend Pennsylvania State University and graduated with a baccalaureate degree in 1957. She taught English at the secondary school level while doing graduate study at Columbia University, where she was awarded the Ph.D. in 1978. She was employed as Assistant Professor of English at University of Rochester, 1965-71; Visiting Assistant Professor of English at Bard College, 1972-73; and Assistant to the Provost at Empire State College, State University of New York, 1973-76; and Associate Dean of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, 1976-78. She came to Bowling Green State University in 1978 as Director of General Education. Prof. Casey filled this role until her retirement in 2005, but continued to teach courses at the University until 2010. Among the subjects she taught were Modern American Literature, Classics of American Literature, African American Literature, Modern British Literature, Canadian Literature and Culture, Canadian Film, Introduction to Canadian Studies, Great Ideas, and Technological Culture and Human Values.

Marian C. Gazarek, 92, of North Baltimore, died at 12:50 a.m., Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore. She was born on April 12, 1918, in Merrill, MI to the late Joseph and Maria (Kuban) Stefanka. She married Joseph Gazarek on February 16, 1952, and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1965. She is survived by her sons: Robert (Patti), John (Laura), Joseph (Kay) and Thomas Gazarek, all of North Baltimore; sisters: Katie Kale of Bowling Green, Irene Rider of North Baltimore and Margaret McGrain of North Baltimore; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were daughters: Carol Gazarek and Joanne Britten; brothers: Joseph, Steve and Rudy Stefanka.

Donald Ray Swanson, 66, of Weston, OH. and formerly of Haskins, OH., passed away peacefully August 26, 2010 at his home. He was born on January 16, 1944 in Bowling Green to Emmal 'Pete' and Mildred Swanson. Donald was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Haskins and the Grand Rapids Sportsman's Club. Over the years he worked for American Cyanamid in Perrysburg, was a Realtor in Waterville, owned and operated Gero's Restaurant in Tontogany and was an Auto Body Mechanic. He was a 1962 graduate of Otsego High School. Mr. Swanson was the beloved father of Todd (Annette) Swanson and Brett (Brenda) Swanson, stepdad of Walt (Amy) Honaker and Teddy (Chanda) Honaker, brother of Janice Ford (David Fritz); Debbie (Greg) Hermiller and Luanne Bowley, and was a loving granddad of Pete, Robin, and Casey Swanson and Hope, Jacelyn, and Beth Honaker, also surviving is his special friend Debbie Polen and his stepfather Bill Heller.

Janice M. (Yawberg) Davis passed away peacefully on August 21, 2010 in San Carlos, Calif. She was born to Carl and Cecelia (Biggins) Yawberg on March 13, 1933 in Whitehouse, Ohio. They then moved to Grand Rapids, Ohio, where she attended Grand Rapids High School and graduated in 1951. During her high school years she worked in her father's grocery store at Carl's Place. She married Bert Davis Jr., on November 5, 1951. They lived in various places while he was in the Air Force before they settled in San Carlos, California, where they raised their five children.
