Kenneth A. Robb, 76, of Bowling Green, died Thursday, July 23rd, in his home.He was an Associate Professor of English emeritus, having retired in 1991.
At Bowling Green State University, he taught courses in linguistics, Victorian literature, and fiction. He enjoyed mentoring students and served on a variety of committees at both the department and university levels. More broadly, he pursued his scholarship in modern American fiction and linguistics, presenting papers at conferences and publishing many articles.
Mr. Robb was active in the community, having served as a Cub Scout leader, a member of the board of The Link, and a tutor in literacy programs. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church, Bowling Green.
Retirement provided the opportunity to further pursue his passion for gardening, and he became a Master Gardener and a member and past president of the Black Swamp Herb Society. He worked in the gardens at the Wood County Historical Center, contributed his time and talents to the Simpson Arboretum, and helped tend the butterfly garden at Wood County District Public Library.
Mr. Robb served in the U.S. Army (Artillery) from 1955-1956. He held degrees from Colgate University, the University of Rochester, and was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. Before beginning to teach at Bowling Green State University in 1970, he had taught at Skidmore College, Gustavus Adolphus College, and the University of Maryland.
Mr. Robb was born in Rochester, New York to Stuart and Olive (Orvald) Robb. He married Jane E. Carlson in 1963, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Catherine Bevier (Louis Bevier) of Waterville, Maine, a son, Stephen (Katherine Robb), of Roswell, Georgia, and four grandchildren: Alex Bevier and Annie, Chris, and Caroline Robb.
Funeral services will be held at Dunn Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 29th, at 11 a.m. with visitation at 10 a.m. The Reverends Tom Mellott and Becky Schofield of First United Methodist Church will officiate. A graveside committal service will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
