WALBRIDGE – Last Friday at the Northeast Area Senior Center five centers in Wood County formed seven
teams to challenge each other to a double elimination Wii Bowling Tournament.
There was competitive but friendly rivalry between the teams. This event has taken place for the past six
years and the participants continue to enjoy meeting new people, reuniting with friends from around the
county, and they especially like celebrating their similarities, as they all have a true passion for
bowling. The two large screen T.V’s, made it easy for the participants to play several games and also
participate as audience members and cheer on their friends.
Each team had five participants who bowled two frames each per game. The concept was to encourage team
effort and friendly rivalry. This team concept produced event scores ranging from 128 to 215. While each
site was asked to form one team, the Northeast Area Senior Center, and the Perrysburg Area Senior Center
actually had two teams each. Also, represented were the Pemberville Area Senior Center, Wood County
Senior Center, and the North Baltimore Area Senior Center.
The winners were the Perrysburg Area Senior Center Team B which called themselves, "The Perrysburg
Wee Wonders." The winning team consisted of Marylou Trader, Robert Combs, Retha Gensler, Cathy
Wyss, Richard "Curly" Wyss. The runners up were the North Baltimore Area Senior Center team
"The North Baltimore Misfits." The team consisted of Harry Friess, Jack Sterling, Donna
Sterling, Velma Green, and Terry Howard.
Curly Wyss from the championship team stated, "It has been great have been taking part for the last
several years. We have fun and love it." The Perrysburg team plays on occasion at the center and
enjoys challenging other organizations. They will host the trophy for the next year. Participants also
enjoyed a visit from Pinman, a mascot representative from Al-Mar Lanes in Bowling Green.
