TONTOGANY - The 2013 Weston Alumni Banquet was held May 25 at the Tontogany American Legion Hall, with 74 alumni, former classmates, spouses and guests in attendance.
Gary Jones welcomed everyone and Joyce Stearns gave the dinner prayer.
Those present from the three honored classes were:
1943 - Georgana Mawer, Ray and Arlene Chapman.
1944 - Norman and Myra Williams and Yvonne Spoores.
1953 - Herman Kiel, Marie Cline, Denny Kelsey, Ardis Honisko, Neva Studer, Richard Courtney and Shirley Williams.
Ruth Wagner Alexander, Class of 1941, brought five of her original paintings to display and share with alumni.
Following the banquet theme of "To Those Who Have Gone Before," Phyllis Murphy photographed and displayed photos of many of the tombstones in Weston Cemetery.
Phyllis and Gary Jones compiled a booklet of the history of the cemetery including old newspaper articles and photos of the statue to honor Civil War veterans and the greenhouse that raised flowers given for free to families to decorate graves for Memorial Day.
The profit from the 50-50 drawing will go toward a marker for the school, to be erected somewhere on the school grounds. The Weston building is gone and soon will be a grassy area. Alumni shared many memories of years spent at the school.
The 2014 Weston Alumni Banquet will be held at the Tontogany legion hall on the last Saturday in May.
