Senior Gathering is May 30
WAYNE - The monthly Senior Gathering will be held Thursday at 12 noon at Mt. Zion United Brethren Church on the corner of Bays and Reynolds roads. All area seniors and friends are welcome to this free meal.
Ted Lewellan will be the guest entertainer.
Women's Diva Nite June 27
Downtown Diva Nite will be June 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, 875 Haskins Road, Bowling Green. Women are invited to enjoy a night of refreshments, chocolate desserts, a jewelry extravaganza and purse auction.
Donated purses from local and regional celebrities will be auctioned off. Participants are encouraged to bring in slightly used purses and jewelry for our sale table. Entertainment and a fun auction will take place. Proceeds will benefit the Wood County Committee on Aging "Senior Center on Call "Project a telephone program for those who are homebound.
The event is sponsored by St. Clare Commons, Southern Care and Otterbein Portage Valley Retirement Community.
Swingmania hits the
Maumee Senior Center
MAUMEE - Jeff McDonald's Swingmania Orchestra will entertain at the Maumee Senior Center's Ellis Huff Memorial Flag Day Summer Party June 1. They will feature the big band sounds of Glenn Miller to Artie Shaw, with a musical library including more than 2,000 arrangements.
The summer party will take place indoors at the air-conditioned Maumee Senior Center, 2430 S. Detroit Ave., with a larger dance floor. The center will be serving a roasted chicken dinner with sides, drinks and dessert. Serving will begin at 5:30 and the band will begin at 6.
The event is open to the public, especially those 60-plus.
Sports Classic targets
TOLEDO - 50-Plus Sports Classic, an Olympic style event for people age 50 and older, will be held June 8, a Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Francis High School, 2323 W. Bancroft St.
The Sports Classic is being hosted by the Area Office on Aging, 2155 Arlington Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43609.
Events include golf; foul shooting and three-on-three basketball; volleyball; field events such as discus, shot put, javelin and long jump; track events from 100- to 1,500-meter run as well as a 1,500-meter speed walk. Swimming events include freestyle, backstroke, medley, butterfly and breaststroke. Also on the schedule are chess/backgammon; tennis; softball; horseshoes; and bowling at Miracle Lanes on Jackman Road.
Registration is required. The early registration fee is $20 if the form is postmarked/submitted by May 28. After that date it is $30. Registration is also available on the day of the event from 8 until 9 a.m. Softball team registration is $50 and the deadline is June 2.

No person over 60 shall be denied nutrition services because of failure to contribute all or part of the cost. People may determine their own contribution amount.
