PERRYSBURG - More than 50 Perrysburg senior citizens participated in a meeting held Tuesday at the Perrysburg Senior Center. The topic of discussion was a proposed senior housing development planned for Harbor Town Place in Perrysburg, located one mile south of Levis Commons.
Tentative plans call for 69 one- and two-bedroom apartments to be constructed, to house residents 55 years of age and over.
Pete Schwiegeraht of the Miller-Valentine Group and Don Corley of WSOS Community Action Commission explained what the housing development would look like. Each unit will be handicapped-accessible, with open floor plans. The two-bedroom units will be about 900 square feet while the one-bedroom units will be about 700 square feet.
"This will be a great housing environment for seniors," Schwiegeraht said.
There will be on-site management, a fitness center, laundry facility, activity/recreation center and many amenities. Approximately 1.5 parking spaces per unit are planned, which would accommodate renters plus some extra spaces for visitors.

Rents will be about a maximum of $650 per month for a two-bedroom and $575 for a one-bedroom. Renters with incomes up to 60 percent of Wood County's median household income would be eligible for these apartments.
In addition, WSOS will collaborate with the Wood County Commission on Aging and its Perrysburg Senior Center to provide services for the seniors who live in the development. Those services could include curb-to-curb transportation and home-delivered meals.
The seniors present asked many questions, then were asked to sign a letter of support that will be submitted with the funding request.
Notice of the funding approval will be made in July, and if approved, construction is expected begin in early 2014. According to Schwiegeraht, completion of the housing development will take about 12 months.
Schwiergeraht said his company has constructed developments with similar designs in Sylvania and referred seniors to visit that development to see what residences at Harbor Town Place would look like.
