County senior center to host food events: Cooking class, martinis, battle of chefs PDF Print E-mail

The Wood County Senior Center is hosting or co-hosting three different food related programs during October.
Details are listed below:
• A Pots and Pans Cooking Class will be offered Mondays, Oct. 7 through Nov. 11 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the county senior center at 305 N. Main St., Bowling Green. Instructors will be Angie Bradford, Wood County Committee on Aging's director of food service, and Paul Dauch.
Each class includes a nutrition education activity and the demonstration of how to prepare two recipes. Samples are always provided. Each class centers on a specific health concern. Every recipe in the curriculum is designed to be simple to prepare, requires minimal prep and standing time, nutritious and relates to the health topic of the week, and affordable. Recipes will include foods frequently overlooked in food pantries as well as less expensive and seasonal foods.

• Today is the deadline for register for "Martinis and Manicures," a women's night out being offered next Friday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sterling House of Bowling Green, 121 N. Wintergarden Road, Bowling Green. Sip martinis while pampering yourself with a manicure. Enjoy snacks, music and women time.
Space is limited to 20 women. Call or email the senior center to register for this program.
• Wood County Throwdown, a chefs' competition, will be held Oct. 19, a Saturday, at 11 a.m. at Penta Career Center, 9301 Buck Road, Perrysburg.
Six chefs from area senior centers, assisted living facilities, retirement communities and long term care facilities will challenge each other to a three-course food throwdown. This event will feature entertainment by Dave Nelson Jazz Trio, a sampling of a variety of courses from local chefs, and a vote to crown the People's Choice Award.
Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased at all seven senior centers in the county. For more information call or email the Programs Department.
