Bird watching event field trip being offered

PEMBERVILLE – Otterbein Portage Valley Senior Lifestyle Community has slated a wide variety of events for
later this month including a field trip to Magee Marsh on Lake Erie to watch migratory birds. There is
also a breakfast event, a card party and a charity tea.

Bird watching
A bird watching field trip will be hosted by Otterbein May 19. Participants will meet at the community at
9 a.m. for coffee and pastries. Everyone will board the bus and proceed to Magee Marsh along the coast
of Lake Erie to view the birds at they proceed north on their summer migratory path. The middle weeks of
May are the optimum time to view this large variety of songbirds. Following the walk, guests will be
provided a picnic lunch. There is no charge for this event, but space is limited.
Card party
The Friends of Otterbein, auxiliary group that supports projects benefitting the residents of Otterbein
Portage Lifestyle Community, will host its annual card party on May 20 from 1-3 p.m. at the Pemberville
site. All seniors and other friends are invited to bring their group of friends for cards, dominoes, or
board games. Refreshments are served and a silent auction will be held. Cost for the fun afternoon is
$10 per person.
‘Breakfast of Champions’
Area retirees are invited to attend a complimentary Breakfast of Champions buffet breakfast at the
Pemberville campus. The event is May 21 at 9 a.m. Jim Opelt, owner of Star Tours of Ohio will be the
speaker and he will summarize the tours he is offering. Opelt has led numerous tour groups of travelers
all over the United States. The event is free, but space is limited.
‘Relay for Life’ fundraiser
The second annual Otterbein Portage Valley "Chair-i-Tea" to benefit the community’s Relay for
Life will be held at the Pemberville center on May 29, beginning at 1 p.m. Tickets for the event are
$15. Volunteer hostesses decorate themed tables and a high tea with scones, savories and sweets will be
served. Musical entertainment will be provided. The painted chairs to be auctioned off at the Relay
event in July will be revealed.
