Bishop Gregory Palmer's has appointment of Rev. Thomas Rand as the new assistant to the Maumee Watershed District Superintendent for the United Methodist Church effective July 1.
Rand comes to the district from Concord UMC in Englewood, Ohio. Previously he served at Summerside UMC in Cincinnati and Lakeside UMC in Pine Bluff, Arkansas as well as churches in upstate New York and Wisconsin.
He was born in Indiana, lived in Pittsburgh, grew up in Arkansas and went to college at Texas A&M. In the land between Columbus and Ann Arbor, he will be found on Fall Saturdays rooting for the Aggies. He studied at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL and has a Ph.D. in New Testament and Worship from Northwestern University. Tom has taught at both UTS and MTSO as an adjunct faculty member as well as various classes at Course of Study.
The new assistant is passionate about spiritual formation and inviting people into a life with God as apprentices learning Jesus' way of living. By the power of the Holy Spirit, inward renewal always leads to outward transformation, the creation of new communities that embody Christ's love poured out for the life of the world. Gracious leadership creates spaces not only for personal renewal, but also for community transformation.
He is married to Rev. Elizabeth Rand, newly appointed to serve Toledo Calvary UMC. She is moving from Grace UMC in Dayton where she served on staff. Tom and Elizabeth have two children, Will, age 13, and Alistair, 10. As a family, they enjoy hiking (especially in the Appalachians), biking, and music.
Rev. Kathy Brown and her husband, Charlie, are moving toward her next appointment as District Superintendent of Capital Area South.
