Rural BG churches join forces for Lenten services

Hope Lutheran Church, 13507 Cloverdale Road, and nearby Cloverdale United Methodist Church, at the corner
of Cloverdale and Kramer roads, are partnering to hold Wednesday evening services for Lent.
Organizers note, "The season of Lent is a time for us to face together the brokenness of our lives
and our world and then turn that brokenness over to Christ so that we can be restored by him through the
cross."
Each service in this series focuses on a certain event in the Lenten story and takes a look at the broken
element from that particular story. The goal is to present an understanding of how each of these
elements leads to restoration in Christ and to understanding what it ultimately means to live today as a
new creation in Christ.
The services begin at 7 p.m. Ash Wednesday (March 5) and continue at the two churches (C for Cloverdale;
H for Hope).
The schedule shows:
• March 5 (C) Ash Wednesday – Broken Hearts Restored: Our hearts are broken in sorrow over sin; Christ
restores our hearts through his forgiveness.
• March 12 (H) Lent 1 – Broken Vessel Restored: A broken vessel holds costly perfume; we are broken
vessels restored when Christ pays the price for us on the cross.
• March 19 (C) Lent 2 – Broken Trust Restored: Judas breaks his trust with Jesus by betraying him; our
broken trust is restored through the sacrifice of Christ.
• March 26 (H) Lent 3 – Broken Bread Restored: Bread is broken at the Last Supper; we are restored
through the Bread of life, Jesus.
• April 2 (C) Lent 4 – Broken Promise Restored: Peter’s broken promises to never deny Jesus are restored
by the surpassing love of Christ.
• April 9 (H) Lent 5 – Broken Justice Restored: A broken justice system put Jesus on the cross; we are
restored when by his death we are declared not guilty.
