Pastor Julia Bertalan
MILLBURY - Last month, Julia Bertalan, accepted her first call as Pastor at St. Peter's United Church of Christ at the corner of Cherry and Main in Millbury.
Bertalan graduated from Union Theological Seminary of NYC in 2010 with a concentration in pastoral ministry. She is a native of Toledo, growing up in the ethnic community of Birmingham, located in what is commonly called Toledo's East Side.
After her graduation from the seminary, she studied in Budapest, Hungary in a language and cultural program in order to improve her Hungarian language skills and to connect with a relative.
She has roots in the denomination as her father was also a minister in Toledo for many years. Rev. Imre Bertalan served at Calvin United Church of Christ in the 1980s and '90s.
Prior to accepting the call to the Millbury church, Bertalan served as "student In care" at Calvin United Church of Christ in Birmingham. Her prospective ordination is scheduled to be next spring.
She is married to Dylan Wilson of Alliquippa Pa.. She says that both of them are excited to be starting a family in the Millbury area, as she begins her ministry with the members of St. Peter's.
"I have always been very dedicated to the neighborhoods where I have lived, working together with neighbors to improve their lives and the neighborhood," she said.
