There is a strange connection between Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin.
On Sunday at First Baptist Church, 749 S. Wintergarden Road, Pastor Tom Mullins will focus on the similarities and differences in the two historical figures.
Mullins title for the 10:30 a.m. worship is "Lincoln vs. Darwin: A Contrast of Ideas."
The pastor says the two men had much in common including the day of their birth to their both becoming famous for their work.
"The similarities (and some differences) of their lives make an interesting study," the pastor said.
The second part of the discussion Mullins notes will focus on how the main ideas for which each is most known for, are in stark contrast to each other, and therefore, also make an interesting study.
He noted how Lincoln invoked the biblical idea that "all men are created equal," in his struggle to preserve the union and to free the slaves; while Darwin, despite his own fear of how his idea might destroy faith and religious devotion, set forth his theory of evolution and "The Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life."
"This will surely be a controversial, yet hopefully truly enlightening message," the pastor summarizes.
The public is invited to attend.
