SYLVANIA - Lourdes University has announced its 2012 Ecumenical Lecture "Church Authority and Ecumenism: Obstacle or Opportunity" on March 25, at 3 p.m. in the Franciscan Center in Sylvania.
The guest lecturer is Dr. Richard Gaillardetz who currently holds the Joseph Chair in Systematic Theology at Boston College. In his presentation, Gaillardetz will explore the deeper issues underlying questions of church authority in ecumenical dialogue and will propose practical measures that might advance ecumenical conversation on the topic.
For 10 years, he served as the Margaret and Thomas Murray and James J. Bacik Professor of Catholic Studies at the University of Toledo. He received his Ph.D. in systematic theology from the University of Notre Dame and has published more than 80 articles and authored eight books.
The Lourdes University Ecumenical Lecture Series was established in 1983 by former Lourdes Presidents Sr. Marie Andrée Chorzempa, OSF, and Sr. Ann Francis Klimkowski, OSF. "We wanted to foster an ecumenical atmosphere," offers Klimkowski. "That atmosphere still exists today and has expanded to an interfaith approach with both the Jewish and Muslim communities being featured as well."
The lecture is free and open to the public.
