Unmasking the mural at St. Aloysius (3-6-14)

Artist Stephan Giannini works at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in
Bowling Green. The church, through a team of restoration artists, is stripping away five layers of paint
to reveal the original mural in the sanctuary from when the church was built in 1924. This is one part
of a larger renovation and improvement project. Hidden under five layers of paint, an intricate mural
created by noted artist Felix Lieftuchter is being restored in the dome area in the sanctuary of St.
Aloysius Catholic Church in Bowling Green. The work is being done by a crew of artists and restoration
specialists from Evergreene Architectural Arts. Those artists are removing the sea foam green paint from
the sanctuary walls, revealing the original mural painting that is still underneath the paint. The work
is one aspect of renovations being conducted at the church. (Photos: J.D. Pooley/Sentinel-Tribune) SEE MORE
