Members of BGSU’s service-learning project move a large section of boardwalk into place Tuesday afternoon. A 150-foot boardwalk is being installed near the north end of the Slippery Elm Trail in Bowling Green behind the Montessori School. Because the area is a wetland, the design of the boardwalk has to be “above ground” – the BGSU construction management students have constructed 64 metal foundations that will sit above ground and hold the wooden boardwalk/bridge securely in place. The project is a service-learning project in conjunction with the BG Parks. When finished the new section of asphalt and boardwalk will connect Kenwood Elementary and the Slippery Elm Trail.
