Farmer Paul Flames carries a bucket of fuel near a burning section of the family’s farmland in Portage Township, Wednesday. Flames is doing the controlled burn to remove debris settling on his farmland from flooding brought by the thaw of winter snows in the Portage River floodplain. Over the years, Flames says he’s seen anything from boulders and train rails, to an entire truck seat wash up onto his land. (Photos: Enoch Wu/Sentinel-Tribune) SEE MORE PHOTOS
