Falcon volleyball earns victory
MUNCIE, Ind. — Bowling Green’s volleyball team pulled into a tie for the best record in the Mid-American Conference Friday with a 25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 15-9 win over Ball State.
The Falcons and Ball State both are 7-2 in the MAC.
BG’s leaders were: Jelena Sunjic, 18 kills; Paige Penrod, 15 kills, 14 digs; Laura Avila, 38 assists; BGHS graduate Ashley Dunn, 16 digs, one ace; Libby Dachenhaus, 16 digs; and Kaitlyn Skinner, eight blocks.
The Falcons are 11-10 overall, while BSU is 19-5.
BG women’s soccer loses
Ball State’s women’s soccer team scored twice in the second half Friday for a 2-0 win over Bowling Green in a Mid-American Conference match at Cochrane Field.
Jenna DiTusa had eight saves for BG, 0-14-1 and 0-7-1 in the MAC.
Piper receives award from TDGA
Bowling Green resident John Piper received the Burt Silverman Award from the Toledo District Golf Association recently. The award is presented annually to someone who has substantially contributed to the golf community.
Piper coached the Bowling Green Falcon golf team for 13 seasons, winning Mid-American Conference championships in 1972, 1973 and 1978, and earning MAC coach of the year honors in 1978.
His teams won 20 tournament titles and had a .671 winning percentage.
He took his three MAC championships team to the NCAA tournament and sent individuals in four other seasons.
Piper also was the secretary-treasurer of the NCAA Golf Coaches Association from 1979-83.
Perrysburg girl golfers honored
Three Perrysburg girls and coach Rick Rettig have earned Division I district golf honors.
Monica Dorner was a first-team selection for the Yellow Jackets, Katie Diehl and Madison Williams were on the second-team and Rettig was the coach of the year.

The Bowling Green Youth Hockey Association are holding a Try Hockey For Free event on Nov. 2 from 1-2 p.m. at the Ice Arena.
Equipment will be provided and sizes do vary.

Owens Community College’s volleyball team was a 25-17, 25-15, 32-30 winner over Cincinnati State Friday in an Ohio Community College Athletic Conference match.
Owens’ leaders were: Ciarrra Wirick, 11 kills, 28 assists, six digs; Jessica Cooper, 17 assists; and Jazmine Thomas, 11 kills, five blocks; Lisa Urbanski, 24 digs; and Kennedy Geyman, 13 digs.
The Express are 19-18 overall.
