Falcon tennis team has 12-5 start
The Bowling Green State University tennis team got the 2013-14 season off to a successful start Friday, posting a 12-5 record in first-day action at the BGSU Invitational.
Friday’s play wound up being held at three different venues in Northwest Ohio.
No team scores are being kept at the two-day, six-team event.
BG’s Katie Brozovich and Harley Hutchison, each went 3-0, winning two singles and one doubles match apiece.
Brozovich, Hutchison, and Nikki Chiricosta will be playing for a singles flight championship today.
There are a total of five singles and four doubles flights.

BGSU rugby wins
The Bowling Green State University rugby team is 2-0 in the Mid American Conference and 6-0 overall after a 44-12 victory over Central Michigan.
Matt Marquette, from Perrysburg High School, touched the ball five times from his fullback spot and scored three times while passing to Steve Fritsch for two tries.
Also scoring tries for BG were Ryan Koenig and Mike Brown. Dane Szente converted three of BG’s seven tries and added a penalty kick.
BG easily handled Central in the second match (non-conference). Sean McFarland scored a pair of tries and kicked a conversion and Sam Polzin added three tries in the 53-5 victory.

Coed softball tourney set
PEMBERVILLE — A double-elimination coed softball tournament is Oct. 4 at the American Legion field in Pemberville.
The tournament is from 6 p.m. until midnight and is for teams of five men and five women.
The entry fee is $10 per player.
Call Denny Henline (419) 287-4750 by Oct. 1 to reserve a team price.
