Matsumoto signs with Sharks
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Former Bowling Green Falcon forward Jonathan Matsumoto signed a one-year contract with the NHL’s San Jose Sharks.
Matsumoto played in one game for the Florida Panthers last season after being acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricane.
He had 23 goals and 37 assists in 76 games in the American Hockey League with Charlotte and San Antonio.
Matsumoto had two goals with Carolina during the 2010-11 season. The 25-year-old has 124 goals and 157 assists in 392 AHL regular-season games and 10 goals and 18 assists in 28 playoff games.
He had 49 goals and 64 assists in 110 games at BG from 2004-07.
Matsumoto was a third-round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2006.

Hewit ties for 20th
WORTHINGTON — Former Bowling Green Falcon golfer Parker Hewit finished in a two-way tie for 20th at the Ohio Amateur Championship.
Hewit shot a final round 76 Friday to finish at 5-over-par 293 at Brookside Golf and Country Club. Nathan Kerns of Ironton, a Marshall University senior, won with a 282 total.

Ohio Trojans plan tryouts
Tryouts for 2013 season of the Ohio Trojans 13U baseball team are Aug. 4 from 1-3 p.m. at Perrysburg Township field on Fort Meigs Road.   
The makeup date is Aug. 18 from 1-3 p.m.

Next Level Baseball will be holding tryouts for its 11U,12U,13U and 14U teams July 22 at the CYO Fields in Holland.
The 11U &12U tryouts are from 1-3 p.m. and the 13U &14U tryouts are from 3-5 p.m.
