BG baseball defeated
WESTFIELD, Ind. — Bowling Green’s baseball team opened Mid-American Conference play Friday with a 9-0
loss to Northern Illinois.
Brian Bien had three hits for BG, 6-16 overall and 0-4 in the MAC. NIU is 4-17-1, 2-2.

softball wins
DEKALB, Ill. — Katie Yoho’s three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning Friday sparked Bowling
Green’s softball team to a 6-4 win over Northern Illinois.
Yoho’s homer opened the scoring and put BG ahead for good.
Amanda Durham and Haley Schrock also had three hits for BG, 10-14-1 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-American
Conference. NIU is 10-14, 0-1.
BG tennis loses
TOLEDO — Bowling Green’s tennis team is 6-5 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference after a 4-3
loss Friday to Toledo (11-4, 2-1).
BG’s Pettigrew
finishes fifth
RALEIGH, N.C. — Bowling Green’s Jeannette Pettigrew finished fifth in the long jump Friday at the Raleigh
Relays.
Her distance of 19-41?2 was the fifth-best in BG history.
BG’s Makenzie Wheat was seventh in the shot put, throwing 46-0, 10th-best in school history.
Also for BG, Perrysburg High School graduate Andrea Alt was seventh in the 5,000 in 17:20.62 and Elmwood
graduate Kori Reiser was19th in the discus (136-5).
Owens
baseball splits
DAYTON — Owens Community College’s baseball team didn’t have a hit in the second game of its doubleheader
Friday, but still posted a 1-0 win over Sinclair CC.
Sinclair was a 5-2 winner in the first game.
In Game 2, Owens’ Kyle Bennett pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Lakota High School graduate Tiger Jaso scored in the first after starting the game with a walk. He later
scored when Owens hit into a double play.
Owens’ Alec Skender had two hits in Game 1.
Both teams are 1-1 in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. Owens is 4-8 overall, while
Sinclair is 13-7.
