Lakota to join new league KANSAS — Lakota is one of six high schools who have formed a new athletic league. The Sandusky River League has been sanctioned by the Ohio High School Athletic Association and is scheduled to begin play in the 2014-15 academic year. In addition to Lakota the other schools are Tiffin Calvert, New Riegel, Old Fort, Fremont St. Joseph and Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic. The ultimate goal of the new league is to have eight football schools and two to three non-football schools. Falcon swimmers down Akron AKRON — The Bowling Green State University swim team delivered a commanding performance against Akron on the road Friday, beating the Zips 175-117. The Falcons won 12 of the 14 swimming events with Joëlle Scheps, Alexa Harris, Daniela Carrillo, Jordan Bullock and Emily Bennet winning two races each in the Mid-American Conference dual meet. BG’s winners were: 400 medley relay, Harris, Alexis Kain, Bullock and Bennet (3:51.77): 1,000 freestyle, Emily Waller (10:22.85); 400 individual medley, Scheps (4:26.47); 200 freestyle, Scheps (1:51.53); 100 backstroke, Harris (58.38); 200 backstroke, Harris (2:04.53); 100 breast stroke, Carrillo (1:04.67); 200 breast stroke, Carrillo (2:18.57); 200 butterfly, Bullock (2:04.95); 100 butterfly, Bullock (57.68); 50 freestyle, Bennett (23.67); 100 freestyle, Bennett 200 freestyle (51.93); BG is 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the MAC. BG track competes in Akron AKRON – The Bowling Green State University indoor track and field team completed at the Akron Invitational Friday. Events are split into gold and blue divisions with gold divisions being the top-ranked athletes entered into each event. BG’s Dana Gates finished sixth out of 10 in the blue division of the long jump with a distance of 17-2.75, exactly two inches shy of her season best. Teammate Jasmine Redman competed in the gold division of the 5,000, competing in the event for the first time in her career. She finished 11th out of 24 in a time of 18:24.69. BG’s Reuland earns scholar-athlete award CLEVELAND — Bowling Green State University’s Emily Reuland, a junior tennis player, has been named the Mid-American Conference scholar-athlete of the week. Reuland was 4-0 last week in a pair of dual meets. On the season, Reuland has an overall record of 28-12, ranking her second on the team in wins. Her 13-5 singles record ties her for the team lead, and she has the second-best doubles mark on the squad, with a 15-7 record. Reuland has a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average as an exercise science major. Rudolph sets signups RUDOLPH —Signups for youth baseball and softball in Rudolph are Tuesday, 6-8 p.m.; Feb. 10, 3-5 p.m.; and Feb. 23, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Liberty Township Civic Center. Leagues are available for coed T-ball; 8U boys and girls; 12U boys and girls; 15U boys and girls; and coed softball. When signing up, a copy of the child’s birth certificate and proof of residency is required, all though participants do not have to live to Rudolph to play there.
