Vickers, Bermejo earn All-Ohio recognitionCOLUMBUS – Northwood’s Jacob Vickers and Dominik Bermejo
were named to the Division VI All-Ohio football team announced Wednesday night.Vickers, a sophomore, was a
third-team offensive selection as the kicker.Bermejo, a senior running back/defensive back, received special
mention.The teams were selected by state media members, but the Sentinel-Tribune doesn’t have a vote in the
process.The teams are posted at www.sent-trib.com.Sehmann swimming in nationalsEmmy Sehmann, from Bowling
Green, is competing in the Short Course National Championships. Knoxville, Tenn. this weekend.Sehmann is
swimming in the 100 freestyle and swimming time trails in the 50 and 200 freestyle events.BGSU’s Dean
honoredPenny Dean, the women’s tennis coach at Bowling Green State University, was named the 2012
President’s award winner by the USTA/Northwest Ohio Tennis Association.The President’s award is given to an
individual based on outstanding service and dedication to the growth of tennis in Northwest Ohio.Dean is in
her 24th season as head coach of the Falcons, and her 28th overall year as a collegiate head coach. She was
named the Mid-American Conference coach of the year in 2012-13, the Falcons were 17-5, setting a school
single-season record for dual-match victories. The Falcons posted the best MAC regular-season and tournament
finishes in the history of the program.Dean’s players have excelled in the classroom as well. In April, the
Falcons were recognized at the BG’s annual Honors Night for having the highest grade-point average of any of
BG’s women’s teams, with a 3.74 GPA. The team earned that honor for the third-straight year.On a national
level, the Falcons have earned an NCAA Public Recognition Award in each of the eight years since the honor
was instituted. Dean’s team has had a perfect score of 1,000 in every year of the Academic Progress Rate’s
existence.BG Rifle Club victoriousThe Bowling Green Rifle Club defeated Fremont, 1,415-1,182.BG’s scores
were: Bob Schwierbert, 292; Kris Link, 288; Norbert Norden, 280; Dan Altman, 279; and Don Link, 276. Mike
Sayen, Russ France, Jerry Milnor, Richard Dittman and Kira Miller also fired for BG.Owens women ranked
fifthThe Owens Community College women’s basketball team has improved four spots in the newest National
Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) D-II poll.After debuting at No. 9 in the preseason poll, Owens
has gone 11-1 to start the season and are now ranked No. 5.
