Badenhop traded againBOSTON – Burke Badenhop, a graduate of Perrysburg High School and Bowling
Green State University, was traded to the Boston Red Sox by the Milwaukee Brewers.Badenhop, who turns 31 in
February, appeared in 63 games for Milwaukee last season, going 2-3 with one save. Over 622‚Ñ3 innings, he
allowed 62 hits and struck out 42 with 12 walks.Right-handed batters hit .229 against Badenhop. In 163 plate
appearances, right-handed batters drew only four walks against Badenhop.In 328 total innings since 2009,
Badenhop has a 3.68 ERA.Badenhop is eligible for salary arbitration for the third and final time and is
projected to make $2.1 million this season.This marks the fourth time Badenhop has been traded since 2007,
and the third time in the last three years.Drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2005, Badenhop was one of six
players traded to the Marlins in 2007 for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. New Boston teammate Andrew
Miller also was part of that deal.Florida traded Badenhop to Tampa Bay for a minor leaguer in 2011. The Rays
traded Badenhop to the Brewers last December, for minor league outfielder Raul Mondesi Jr.In the most recent
trade the Brewers receive Luis Ortega, a 20-year-old left-handed pitcher. Ortega was 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA in
12 appearances in the Gulf Coast League last season.Falcon volleyball losesGENEVA, Ohio – The Bowling Green
State University volleyball team was eliminated from the Mid-American Conference tournament by Northern
Illinois on Friday, 15-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-19. The Falcons, the defending MAC tournament champions, are
14-15 overall.BG’s leaders were: Lindsey Butterfield, 15 kills, 18 digs; Paige Penrod, 12 kills; Ashley
Dunn, from Bowling Green High School, 14 digs; Erica Fullenkamp, 27 assists; and Laura Avila, 16
assists.BGSU swimmers thirdEVANSTON, Ill. – The Bowling Green State University swimming team is third after
the first day of competition at the TYR Invitational Friday.Host Northwestern leads with 288 points.
Missouri State is second with 196, and the Falcons have 195 points.BG’s Brittany Szekely won the 50
freestyle (23.32) and swan on the winning 200 freestyle relay with Victoria Griffin, Jo?´lle Scheps, and
Kayla Effinger.BGSU soccer teams earn academic awardsThe Bowling Green State University men’s and women’s
soccer programs have earned academic honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Both
teams have received the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year.The NSCAA Team Academic
Award is given to soccer programs that have achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0
scale.The BG women’s soccer program earned the honor for the fourth time in five years, and the Falcons had
one of the top team GPAs in the nation for the second-straight year. BG had a stellar team GPA of 3.50
during the 2012-13 academic year, ranking among the top-20 NCAA Division I programs in the country.. The
Falcons were recognized for the fourth consecutive season, and the men’s soccer Falcons made the list for
the sixth time overall.
