Alt second at All-Ohio meet
CEDARVILLE — Bowling Green State University’s Andrea Alt, a Perrysburg High School graduate, was second overall at the All-Ohio cross country championships Friday. Alt finished in 22:07.46 over the 6,000-meter course.
Bowling Green was second in the team standings with 97 points. Dayton won the 42-team meet with 93 points.
Also scoring for BG were: Amanda Garlak, sixth, 22:32.83; Mackenzie McMillin, 17th, 23:00.19; Rebecca Rae, 28th, 23:17.67; and Maria Meredith, 44th, 23:41.71.
BG’s finishes takes third
CEDARVILLE — Bowling Green State University’s Jason Sayler was third overall in 25:10.64 at the All-Ohio cross country championships Friday. He finished in 25:10.64 over the 8,000-meter course.
The Falcons were 18th in the 41-team field with 498 points. Akron won the meet with 83 points.
Also scoring for the Falcons were: Greg Black, 39th, 26:17.22; Tim Jurick, 90th, 27:05.09; Logan Pitcher, 171st, 28:36.43; and Jeremy Richard, 199th, 29:25.29.
BGSU volleyball wins
KENT — The Bowling Green State University volleyball team improved to 3-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a 26-28, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19 win over Kent State Friday. The Falcons are 7-9 overall.
BG’s leaders were: Lindsey Butterfield, 17 kills; Paige Penrod, 12 kills; Jelena Sunjic 11 kills; Danielle Tonyan 10 kills; Erica Fullenkamp, 27 assists; Laura Avila, 25 assists; Ashley Dunn, from Bowling Green High School, 13 digs; and Kaitlyn Skinner, one block and 10 block assists.
Falcon men’s soccer wins
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Joe Sullivan scored in the 81st minute to lift the Bowling Green State University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 Mid-American Conference win over Buffalo Friday.
Michael Wiest made two saves for the Falcons, now 2-4-4 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.
EMU tops BG women’s soccer
Eastern Michigan beat the Bowling Green State University women’s soccer team, 2-1 Friday in a Mid-American Conference game.
Taylor Bucaro scored for the Falcons, now 0-9 overall and 0-3 in the MAC. BG’s Lauren Cadel made 12 saves.
Digby named All-American
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A.J. Digby. a sophomore at Otsego High School, has been named a track and field All-American by U.S. Paralympics.
To be selected, the committee considers multiple performances by each athlete compared against the ‘A’ standard for the U.S. Paralympics track and field nation team.
A blade runner, Digby participated with Otsego during the 2012 track season. This summer he went to the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation World Junior Championships and was crowned a junior champion.
The top performers in nine different events were All-Americans. Digby was first in the 400; second in the 100; third in the 200, discus and long jump; sixth in the shot put; and seventh in the javelin.
Owens men’s golfers win
TOLEDO —The Owens Community College men’s golf team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, won its own invitational Friday at Heather Downs Country Club.
The Express finished with a 287 total in the 14-team field.
Brandon Hoelzer shot a 70 and was second in a three-man playoff for medalist honors.
Also for Owens Philippe Weppernig and Harrison Long each shot 71 and Kirby Manown and Dru Hein each shot 75.
Owens’ B team was 19th with a 321. Tim Dawkins led Owens with a 76.
Wrestling officiating class
FINDLAY — Anyone interested in becoming an Ohio High School Athletic Association registered wrestling official can enroll in a class which begins Thursday at the University of Findlay.
