Falcon hockey picked fourth
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bowling Green was fourth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association media poll announced Tuesday.
The Falcons received 149 points to finish behind Minnesota State 244, Ferris State 218 and Alaska 168.
MSU received 22 of the 25 first-place votes, while Ferris State had two and Bemidji had one.
The Falcons are in their first season in the WCHA after being a charter member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The CCHA was formed in 1971.
The CCHA no longer exists because of college hockey's realignment that takes effect this season.
BG junior forward Ryan Carpenter was named to the media's preseason all-league team. Falcon sophomore defenseman Ralfs Freibergs received votes for the all-league team.
BG goalie Tomas Sholl received votes for the rookie of the year award.
The WCHA coaches poll will be announced today.

Wilson helps Falcons win title
HINKLEY, Ohio - Shelby Wilson earned medalist honors and led the Bowling Green State University women's golf team to first place with a 608 at the Cleveland State Invitational at Pine Hills Golf Club.
St. Francis (Pa.) was second with a 618.
Wilson opened the tournament with a 74 and shot 75 on Monday for a 149 total.
Teammate Lily Bartell was one of three players second at 150.
Also for BG, Patricia Holt, tied for sixth, 152; and Bailey Arnold and Mikayla Baer, both tied for 17th, 159.

Owens' Urbanski wins award
Lisa Urbanski, a sophomore libero for the Owens Community College volleyball team, has been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week.
Urbanski totaled 87 digs over five matches this past week.

Combs earns OCCAC honor
Austin Combs, a freshman midfielder for the Owens Community College men's soccer team, has been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference men's soccer co-offensive player of the week.
Combs had two goals and an assist against Cuyahoga Community College.
