BGSU men's golf fourth
Bowling Green State University's men's golf team finished fourth in the John Piper Intercollegiate at Stone Ridge Golf Club with a 54-hole score of 872. Marshall University won with an 866.
Chris Melvin led BG, finishing second with a score of 214, one stroke behind the winner, Tom Boockmeier from Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Also scoring for BG were: Jose Narro, tied for fifth, 216; and Brett Rinker and Ryan Triller, tied for 14th, 221 each.
BGSU women's golf sixth
WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - Bowling Green State University's woman's golf team placed sixth at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate with a 594 total. Western Carolina won the 12-team event with a 570. BG's 36-hole total and the second round of 288 are both school records.
BG's scorers were: Bailey Arnold, tied for 20th, 147; Lily Bartell, tied for 22nd, 148; Hannah Lewis, tied for 35th, 153; Patrica Holt, tied for 37th, 154; and Mikayla Baer, tied for 40th, 155.
BGSU volleyball sweeps
Bowling Green State University's volleyball team was a 25-13, 25-16, 29-27 winner over Youngstown State Tuesday night.
Leading the Falcons were: Paige Penrod, 12 kills; eight digs; Lindsey Butterfield, 11 kills; Erica Fullenkamp, 35 assists; and Ashley Dunn, a Bowling Green High School graduate, 15 digs.
Detroit blanks Falcon soccer
DETROIT - Bowling Green State University's woman's soccer team fell 3-0 to the University of Detroit Mercy on Tuesday. The Falcons are 0-5.
Owens men's golf third
HAMMOND, Ind. - Owens Community College's men's golf team finished third in the 16-team Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite at Lost Marsh Golf Course. The Express shot a 622 total.
Owens' scores were: Blaze Hogan, seventh, 153; Harrison Long, eighth, 154; Philippe Weppernig, tied for 13th, 157; and Brandon Hoelzer, tied for 16th, 158.
Martin earns OCCAC honor
Owens Community College's Jacob Martin has been named the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference men's soccer offensive player of the week.
Martin, who also won the award on Sept. 1, scored three times and recorded two assists in three Express wins last week.
He has six goals and three assists on the year, helping Owens to a 7-1 record.
Hockey tryouts changed
The Northwest Eagles hockey team is holding open tryouts on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. and Oct. 6 at 9 a.m. in the BGSU Ice Arena. The tryouts are for players ages 14-18.
The cost is $10 per tryout and all players must be registered with USA Hockey in advance. Proof of registration is required.
