BGSU baseball plans tryouts
Open tryouts for current students for the Bowling Green State University baseball team are Sept. 15 at Steller Field.
Registration begins at 10:30 am, with the tryout beginning at 11.
Any student trying out is asked to bring their class schedule. Students wishing to tryout are also asked to bring proof of a physical, proof of insurance, and any necessary equipment, including a glove, bat, and catcher's gear if you plan to tryout as a catcher.
Falcon tennis earns academic honors
The Bowling Green State University tennis team was well represented as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its academic awards for the 2012-13 academic year. BG has been named a 2013 ITA All-Academic Team, and a total of seven Falcons have been named ITA scholar-athletes.
The list of individual honorees includes Maddy Eccleston, Katie Grubb and Jade Johnson, all of whom were seniors on the 2012-13 team. Additionally, all four BGSU returnees - Katie Brozovich, Nikki Chiricosta, Drew Fillis and Emily Reuland - earned the individual scholar-athlete awards.
The Falcons' total of seven honorees was the highest among Mid-American Conference institutions.
BGSU was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the sixth consecutive year, and the Falcons have had at least three players named an ITA Scholar Athlete in each of those years.
Owens men's soccer wins
ELYRIA - Owens Community College's men's soccer team was an 11-0 winner over Lorain County Community College Thursday.
Adane Spence led the Express, ranked No. 18, with three goals, while seventh other players scored their first collegiate goals.
Owens is 4-1.
Elmwood to hold chicken barbecue
JERRY CITY - The Elmwood prom committee will hold a chicken barbecue on Friday, Sept. 20 prior to the homecoming game against Fostoria.
Tickets will be sold for $8 and can be bought at the high school or the country farm house in Wayne.
The meal will include a half chicken, potato salad, green beans, roll and dessert, and will be served from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Royal Stadium.
