Jones claimed by Tampa Bay
TAMPA- Former Bowling Green State University standout Chris Jones has been claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A sixth-round draft choice by Houston, Jones was cut by the Texans Saturday.
Jones is a defensive tackle.
BGSU's Skinner earns MAC honor
CLEVELAND - Bowling Green State University's Kaitlyn Skinner is the Mid-American Conference East volleyball defensive player of the Week.
Skinner, a native of Cambridge, Ontario, averaged 1.55 blocks/set during the Bowling Green Hampton Inn Invitational over the weekend.
Falcon women's soccer loses in OT
Kelly Mahoney headed home a corner kick in the 99th minute of the match, giving Butler University a 2-1 overtime victory over the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team Saturday. The Falcons are 0-2.
Ashley Garr scored BG's goal on a header off a corner kick from Madeline Wideman.
Lauren Cadel made 12 saves for the Falcons and there was one team save.
BGSU men's CC finishes second
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Host Eastern Michigan finished with 21 points in a triangular men's cross country meet. Bowling Green State University was second with 47 points, and Toledo was third with 52 points.
The Falcons' scorers were: Greg Black, fifth, 16:17.60; Jason Salyer, sixth, 16:30.10; Tim Jurick, 10th, 16:29.20; Joe van Bolderen, 11th, 16:48.10; and Nathan Kuck, 15th, 17:04.30.
Falcon women's CC takes second
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Host Eastern Michigan finished with 34 points in a triangular women's cross country meet. Bowling Green State University was second with 40 points and Toledo was third with 46 points.
The Falcons' scorers were: Emma Wirwaldt, fourth, 19:02.80; Mackenzie McMillin, sixth, 19:09.90; Maria Meredith, eighth, 19:19.90; Rebecca Rae, ninth, 19:22.20; and Heather Baruxes, 13th, 19:45.00.
Owens men's golf wins
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. - Blaze Hogan shot rounds of 72 and 69 to help the Owen Community College's men's golf team to the title at the Olivet College Fall Invitational. The Express finished with a 583 total.
Hogan's 141 was the low individual score.
Other Owens scorers were: Phillip Wenning, third, 143; Brandon Hoelzer, and Harrison Long, tied for 15th, 150 each.
Owens men's soccer wins
JACKSON, Mich. - Jacob Martin scored off a free kick with 4:29 left in the second overtime to lift the Owens Community College men's soccer team past Jackson College, 4-3 Saturday.
Martin and Vijay Gentles each scored two goals for Owens.
Owens volleyball wins twice on Sunday
Jessica Cooper had a solid all-around day as the No. 4 Owens Community College volleyball team swept both of its opponents on the final day of the Owens Invitational Sunday.
Owens beat Kishwaukee College, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 and McHenry County College, 25-11, 25-4, 25-11.
Aricka LaVoy, from Eastwood High School, had six aces for Owens in the win over Kishwaukee.
On Saturday, Iowa Central CC beat Owens, 25-14, 25-23, 19-25, 16-25, 15-5, and Owens beat Hagerstown CC, 25012, 25-9, 26-14.
LaVoy had 10 digs in the Iowa Central match and four aces in the Hagerstown victory.
Owens is 4-6 this season after going 4-2 in its three-day tourney.
Owens women's soccer loses
JACKSON, Mich. - Jackson College edged the Owens Community College women's soccer team, 3-2 Saturday.
Jessica Grindle, from Northwood High School, scored a goal for Owens.
The Express is 2-1 this season.
